Key Features
The Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms Double Helix is a powerful modular waveform generator that comes fully equipped with beefy dual analog oscillators and collection of waveforms, contour section featuring a highly tuned wavefolder for waveshaping, mixer, and modulation section with LFO and various waveforms. Everything from sci-fi synth sounds to crunchy FM sounds can be created and the voltage controlled routers allow for complex signal paths around the whole module and experimentation for sound design.

The Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms Double Helix features two wide range, precision analog oscillators with a full collection of waveforms for you to choose from. Both oscillators come equipped with fine tune attenuators and FM CV knobs for fine tuning frequency and adding frequency modulation. The first oscillators offers all the standard waveforms including saw, square, sub octave, pulse, and bladewave, and multiple modulation options, whereas the second oscillator offers a more focused set of waves and frequency modulation. Additionally they can both reach a deep LFO range and can be used as voltage controlled sources.
The Double Helix features a highly tuned wavefolder paired with Pittsburgh Modular's dynamic impulse low pass gate. The contour signal chain starts with a two channel mixer which enables multiple waveforms or oscillators to combine before passing through the contour section. Incoming audio is sent through the contour section and the 6 stage wavefolder is then used to add odd harmonics to modify the sound. The timbre and timbre CV controls set the density and amplitude of the folds. The other half of the contour section is a low pass gate and the effect of it is similar to a low pass filter and VCA paired together. This feature can be used to further modify the harmonics generated by FM and the oscillators. Turning the dynamics control adds harmonics through the filter, and the VCA increases amplitude of the waveform. Pairing these together results in a more naturally tonal response. Organic, percussive sounds can be created with the impulse input. The impulse input adds the ability to strike or ping the low pass gate circuit, and the decay time can be adjusted with the dynamics control knob to create short plucky sounds.
Pittsburgh Modular's Double Helix uses a pair of voltage controlled routers that manage all the CV inputs to create an input matrix ideal for experimentation, complex signal paths and live performance. They have been designed to control the modulation amount inputs that can be routed to any of the inputs on the Double Helix allowing you to experiment with sound design. Each of the CV inputs can be switched between channel a or b, or bypassed.
