Harrison Vocal Intensity Processor
Streamline Vocal Dynamics
The Vocal Intensity Processor simplifies dynamic control with an easy-to-use Vocal Leveler. By adjusting the Intensity knob, you drive the Leveler to compress the vocal track gently, ensuring smooth and consistent dynamics across your performance. The visual gain reduction meter alongside the Leveler provides immediate feedback on the amount of compression applied, making it straightforward to achieve the perfect balance.
Precision Frequency Shaping
The High and Low-Pass Filters, derived from the legendary Harrison 32C console, offer precise control over the spectral characteristics of your vocals. Adjusting the HP Freq and LP Freq knobs shapes your vocal sound, while the RTA Display gives you a visual representation of the signal's spectral changes. This feature allows you to make informed decisions on frequency adjustments for optimal clarity and warmth.
Tonal Enhancements on Demand
With the Bump and Bright features, the Vocal Intensity Processor goes beyond basic processing to enhance the tonal quality of your vocals. Bump adds a subtle low-end boost, perfect for adding warmth, whereas Bright provides a high shelf boost to bring out the clarity and presence in your vocals. These tools work in tandem with the filters to tailor your sound precisely.
Professional-Level Output Control
The K-12 Output Meter and built-in limiter are designed to maintain optimal vocal levels, ensuring your tracks sound great on any system. The Output Meter guides you to keep the average signal level within the target range, while the limiter prevents clipping by capping the output signal, guaranteeing a polished, professional mix without the risk of distortion.
SSL De-Ess
Filters
The filters section limits the frequency of the content of the sidechain that triggers the de-esser. You can dial in precise filtering to ensure that the de-essing effect only kicks in when undesirable frequency content is present. Simply set the frequency cutoffs for the high-pass and low-pass filter within the intuitive user interface and you can accurately define the trigger for de-essing.
Relative Threshold
Unlike classic de-essers, DeEss uses a 'relative' threshold. In this case, the threshold is set relative to the loudness of the signal rather than being an absolute value. Essentially, this means that de-essing will occur no matter how loud or quiet the signal is. Not only does this mean that de-essing is applied to softer passages just as efficiently as louder passages, but also that increasing the level of your signal earlier in your signal chain is less likely to have a destructive effect on your DeEss settings.
Compression history graph
The compression history graph plots the pre-filter input signal and highlights the sections of the signal that are being compressed in three colours. Bright yellow indicated heavy de-essing, dim yellow indicated light de-essing, and grey indicated that no de-essing is being applied, and the signal is untouched. Waveform visualisation is useful for identifying events in the signal that can be hard to track in a frequency plot, and for dialling in the amount of de-essing with precision.
Advanced compressor settings
Advanced compression settings allow for powerful de-essing modes with efficient processes and unique results. The blend control can be used to blend between split and broadband sidechaining modes. Towards split, attenuation is only applied to the frequency band defined in the filters section, whereas moving the blend slider towards broadband causes attenuation to be applied equally across all frequencies. The brighten control accentuates the high-frequencies of your signal in conjunction with de-essing to avoid affected areas becoming dull, providing you with a method to easily rejuvenate your signal after heavy de-essing. Lookahead adds a small amount of latency, which allows the de-esser to react to sibilant events slightly ahead of when they occur. Finally, oversampling can be turned on to reduce aliasing introduced by compression, therefore improving quality. Any oversampling applied is automatically dependent on your sample rate.
