Versatile USB MIDI-to-CV Converter
The Expert Sleepers FH-1 USB MIDI Host offers simple direct control of output CVs from MIDI CCs, as well as a variety of other modes. Each of the outputs on the FH-1 can operate in a number of modes including direct CC control, sequencer output, LFO, arpeggiator, and more. The modes are simultaneously active so there is no need to explicitly switch from them. Simply start using the mode by sending the MIDI CCs for that mode, and the USB MIDI Host module will automatically change to that mode. Additionally, the FH-1 supports receiving and sending MIDI clock, features a simple BPM-based clock, tap tempo function, smoothing setting, and provides you with the ability to save and recall presets.
Primary Modes Of Use
The primary modes of the FH-1 are direct control, LFOs, sequencers, note on/offs (MIDI/CV conversion), and special purpose outputs. The level of output is directly set from the MIDI CC. When using high resolution MIDI CCs, it allows access to the full 14-bit resolution of the FH-1's DACs.
LFOs
The FH-1's outputs can generate an LFO for modulation ability. Each output features an LFO, which is added to the 'direct control' value. The LFO has 6 waveform amounts including sine, square, triangle, saw, random, and noise. It features a speed control that can be set in two ways. It can either be set through direct speed control, or as a multiple of the input clock rate. The LFO also features a pulsewidth control for the square waveform, which allows for a variety of modulation options. Additionally, the LFO features a phase control for adding texture to your sound, and can also be synced to clock pulses on its inputs.
Sequencers
As well as LFOs, the FH-1 has 2 internal sequencers that take their inspiration from classic analogue step sequencers. The sequencer steps can be set either as direct level, or in musical notes. The sequencers use outputs 1-4 (sequencer A) and 5-8 (sequencer B). The first 3 outputs are CV outputs, whilst the 4th is a trigger/gate. Musical scales can be implied on the sequencer step with a MIDI CC to select the key for the scale. The sequencers features a glide control for smooth pitch shifting between each note, and also a gate length control that sets the length of the gate pulse.
Arpeggiator
Furthermore, the FH-1 features an arpeggiator with a number of adjustable functions. The arpeggiator can be clocked to either the X input, MIDI clock, or internal clock. The arpeggiator features a range of modes allowing you to change the order the notes are played, as well as giving you options over the octave range, gate length, and latching.
